Annual Report 2006/07
On 26 June 2007, Adam Peat laid before the National Assembly for Wales his first Annual Report as Public Services Ombudsman for Wales. The new office came into formal existence on 1 April 2006 and replaced the previous four separate roles of Commissioner for Local Administration in Wales, the Welsh Administration Ombudmsan, the Health Service Commissioner for Wales and the Social Housing Ombudsman for Wales.
Adam Peat was pleased to be able to report that the inaugural year of the new service had gone smoothly. The number of complaints made to the Ombudsman continued to rise: 10% up on the combined total of complaints made to the previous four ombudsmen offices in 2005/06. It was believed that this increase was as a result of a higher profile for the Ombudsman's office than had previously been the case, rather than a deterioriation in the performance of public bodies.
However, the Ombudsman took the opportunity to highlight in his Report an area that had been of particular concern to him during the year: the failing on the part of a number of authorities in tackling anti-social behaviour.
In recognising all that had been accomplished during the first year of the new office, Adam Peat thanked all his staff for their enthusiasm, hard work and team spirit.
